| Introduction: |
| This course is an advanced class for graduate students majoring in Computer Application Technology and Electronic Science & Technology. Based on the knowledge of concepts, theories and methods in pattern recognition, students can obtain more in-depth knowledge about image recognition and learn about pioneer ideas in the research area of image and video analysis. We adopt multiple interactive ways, such as paper reading, in-class discussion and course project, to make students get involved in real research condition, comprehend the-state-of-the-art achievements and be capable to solve specific real tasks. We try to provide the students a training to improve their practical skills in pattern recognition research. |
| Content: |
| 1. Concepts of image processing and recognition: digital image processing, gray histogram, image computing algorithms, image similarity measurement, image transform, etc.
2. Reviews and recent progress in pattern recognition: statistical pattern recognition reviews, introduction of clustering methods, statistical learning and support vector machine, recent applications in face recognition, text detection and video retrieval, etc.
3. Applications in image and video analysis: image segmentation, object measurement, sports video analysis, etc.
4. Course practice: to complete a course project of solving a pattern recognition problem, to develop a related pattern recognition application, to evaluate the system and demonstrate the work.
